In cases of primary bone cancer (cancer originating in the bone cells) diagnosed at an early stage, the reported survival rate is 85 percent.

However, if cancerous cells have spread from other tissues to the bone (secondary bone cancer), a prognosis of six months is given.

Breast cancer and prostate cancer most frequently spread to bones, in 50-85 and 50-70 percent of cases, respectively.
