Diabetes is considered to be one of the major health crises of the 21st century, affecting 420 million people and representing one in every eleven people worldwide. In the United States alone, four new cases are diagnosed every minute.

Genetic predisposition can be a cause, but the main culprits are lack of physical activity and eating habits. A sedentary lifestyle and excess consumption are preponderant in today’s society, and have only exacerbated the diabetes crisis.

Diabetes can be very damaging to our health, as it reduces life expectancy by ten years and may lead to other illnesses—which may be just as serious and can reduce quality of life. No cure is currently available on the market, but daily controls by the patients themselves make it possible to find a balance and lead a quality life.
