20 million people suffer from heart failure worldwide, including 500,000 in France. Hopes for a new treatment for these patients are currently taking shape.
A Cellular therapy, tested in a clinical trial in Europe and the USA on over 300 people, uses an extremely promising thigh muscle cell transplantation technique.
Scientists take samples of thigh muscle cells from patients and re-implant them in the heart, thus avoiding rejection risks.
Although this treatment could potentially be prescribed to the 500,000 heart failure patients in France and around 100,000 newly diagnosed cases every year, it will for the time being only be prescribed to those who display insufficient response to other treatments or who are not candidates for a transplantation procedure.
