Optimizing Breastfeeding with the Latest Pumping Technology

The Symphony PLUS® program, developed for milk expression and breast stimulation during the first days after birth, is designed to support mothers by mimicking a newborn’s natural sucking rhythm. Medela’s extensive research has led to the development of advanced technologies like the 2-Phase Expression® Technology, which enhances milk supply. The Symphony breast pump, used in hospitals worldwide, ensures comfort and effectiveness, aiding mothers in building and maintaining their milk supply during early breastfeeding stages.

Preserving Breastfeeding During the COVID-19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely disrupted maternity services and breastfeeding support worldwide. Fear of infection, confusion due to changing guidelines, and strained healthcare resources have led to reduced in-hospital breastfeeding support, earlier discharges, and increased use of formula substitutes. Despite mothers’ willingness to breastfeed and continued recommendations from healthcare professionals, the challenges posed by the pandemic have jeopardized essential elements for establishing and maintaining milk supply. Healthcare professionals are urged to protect and promote breastfeeding through continuous support, both in hospitals and at home, to mitigate the long-term impact of these disruptions.

Real-World Use of Bedinvetmab for Canine Osteoarthritis in Europe

Bedinvetmab (Librela®), a novel treatment for canine osteoarthritis (OA), has shown significant effectiveness across five European countries. In a study with over 1,900 patient records, veterinarians reported a high satisfaction rate of 8.0 out of 10.0, with fewer than 1% discontinuing use due to dissatisfaction. Bedinvetmab reduced the need for multiple pharmacological treatments, with the proportion of dogs requiring additional medication for OA pain dropping from 47% to 31%. This new therapy offers hope for better pain management and improved quality of life for dogs suffering from OA.

Patient Preferences for Ulcerative Colitis Medication

A recent European survey conducted among ulcerative colitis patients and physicians highlights the importance of medication formulation on treatment adherence. The majority of patients preferred tablet formulations over granules, with 58% choosing tablets due to their ease of use and convenience. Physicians also favored tablets, believing that patients were more adherent and experienced better symptom relief compared to granules. However, both patients and physicians agreed that reducing the pill burden and simplifying dosing regimens would significantly improve adherence, particularly for those struggling with multiple daily doses.
